When land sank into the Aegean Sea 6 million years ago, only the tops of mountains and volcanoes became today’s Aegean islands.  Santorini is a volcanic cone that erupted 1450 BC leaving steep cliffs and rocky terrain.  Now known for tourism and whitewashed, cliff-top villages, aerial tram and stunning views.
