The large Island of Rhodes is a modern day vacation destination.  It holds the best preserved medieval, walled towns in Europe.  Knights lived inside these impregnable walls until 1522.  Today the city is filled with shops and museums.  We walked the Street of the Knights and saw castles with moats and gilded churches of many faiths.
