Peggy's Ancestors ~ The Davis and Cowen Families

Here are few tidbits from the Davis genealogy research we have been doing.
We found that Peggy's paternal grandparents, Oscar Davis and Dona (Cowen) Davis were married
in 1918, most likely in Mansfield, Sugarloaf Township, Sebastian County, Arkansas.

Peggy's Grandmother Dona (Cowen) Davis

A portion of the 1920 US Census shown below shows Oscar and Dona. A 6-year old boy
is also living with them, but we have yet to figure out what the note for him says. We do not
think it is their child.

The other find here is that the family living right next door is Dona's parents, William Cowen
wife Martha (also known as Mattie), their son Charles and his son Aud. That means we have
finally located Peggy's paternal Grandparents and Great Grandparents here in 1920. These people were
unknown by name heretofore.

According to what family recalls, when Peggy's Grandmother, Dona Cowen Davis gave birth to her son Carl Wendell Davis, she died in childbirth. The story was that Carl was sent to live with an Aunt Flora (Davis) Schwearjohann in Mansfield. The 1930 Census below not only shows that Carl is living with the Schwearjohann's in Oildale Township, Kern County, CA, but so is his father Oscar, listed as "widower".
